The Pet Zone opened its doors on August 23, 1985. The original location was on Main Street in Pittston, PA across from Albert's Pharmacy. We are now located in a much bigger building behind Albert's Pharmacy on West Oak Street.
Bill Pambianco always wanted to open a pet store, so in 1985 he and his wife, Michele made his dream a reality. When the store opened, he specialized in freshwater fish, birds, ponds and installations. In the early 90's, Bill began offering saltwater fish.
In the early to mid 90's, Bill's son, Bill Jr. - now about seven years old, took an interest in reptiles. Starting with lizards, they bred and sold Bearded Dragons. Eventually they branched out to other lizards and different kinds of snakes, especially colubrids like Kingsnakes, Milksnakes and Cornsnakes.
In 2010, The CAVE opened, which was used as an educational mini-zoo that featured American Alligators, venomous snakes, venomous lizards and many more exotic reptiles. The CAVE can be booked for birthday parties, educational shows, schools, clubs and groups, libraries and any other educational groups. We also have public shows, usually every two months, which are announced on our social media and our website.
Currently The CAVE features several venomous snakes and lizards, a variety of other snakes, large fish, American Alligators and more.
Fast forward to present day - The Pet Zone has grown exponentially and has gained countless loyal customers. The benefit of being a small, family-owned and operated business is that it allows for personal relationships to be made between the family and the customers, as well as to form valuable relationships with the community. We take our jobs very seriously - we want to provide the best care for your animal to ensure they live a long, happy, healthy life.
The products we carry are those that we trust and use on our own pets. We carry all essential products for dogs, cats, small animals (rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, rats, hamsters, etc), snakes, lizards, amphibians, saltwater & freshwater fish, and even oddball pets like pigs!
The store currently features large freshwater fish, saltwater fish and reptile sections, as well as an ever-changing selection of small animals, birds, tarantulas and so much more. Bill and Bill Jr. are known for custom fish tank installations - both salt and fresh water. Bill Jr. specializes in reptile care and breeding.
